The song was initially written for Roy Orbison, but actually, was made famous by Cindy Lauper in 1989. The Roy Orbison recording wasn't released until 1992.

@raincoatlover The song was recorded for an album where artists paid tribute to their influences, it's not like they were lacking ideas. They were showing their love for Orbison.
