I wanted to see the Alan Tudyk panel but the line for that was sooo long when I got there that I figured it would be better to get a decent seat at the Spike/Drusilla panel than risk the line for Alan Tudyk getting cut off on me!

Never planned. If you remember correctly, Spike asked the demon to make him how he was, so he could give Buffy what she deserved. Phrased a bit differently, perhaps, but that's what he said. He never asked for his soul. The demon thought that the soul was necessary to give Buffy what she deserved; a man she could allow herself to fall in love with (After Angel that is) In my opinion, Spike probably wanted to be his old self, so he could kill her. Whichever the case, Spike never planned his soul.

Not only it's said on wikipedia, he says it on buffy season 7 over and over, and on Angel season 5. I cannot believe some so-called fans keep saying he wanted his chip removed when he went to Africa.
