He put his pick in his mouth , sing with the pick still in his mouth and took it out when he was playing his guitar . At the end I saw him putting the pick back into his mouth after the song has finished ... He was a pro ...humble , nice , underrated guy ! RIP.

I thought so too he put the pick in his mouth or something . He's the other half of Bread but was denied of singles by the record producer when it should be 50/50 between him and David gates . So sad . But retribution - he won an Oscar !

did he just swallowed the pick?

I worked for Jimmy in the late 70s and we were taking boxes to the trash for himone day and amoung all the papers inside was a page with music and words scribbled by jimmy himself, I gave it to my sister in New Mexico and she framed it. God Bless you Jimmy
I never knew Jimmy wrote this classic song. There's a trivia question for ya.

Yep! He wrote it under the pen name Arthur James, which is his first and middle name reversed. He shared the Oscar for this song with his long-time writing partner, Robb Royer, who used the pen name Rob Wilson. The other writer was Fred Karlin. The song was in the film Lovers and Other Strangers in 1970 and, of course, the song was made famous by The Carpenters.
