Electric ceramic kiln converted to fire with propane. This was just a quick test on the empty kiln to see how well the burner performed. I patterned my updraft configuration to a commercially produced updraft propane kiln of a similar size that I used before.
Recently, a series of 8 videos were posted by Simon Leach on YouTube where he shows how he converted an old electric kiln to propane, and his conversion is a downdraft kiln with a chimney and 2 burners. If you need more extensive information, you should really look up his videos! Just search "Simon Leach electric to propane conversion" . He also has video demonstrating a complete bisque and then a glaze firing in his conversion kiln.

  • Haven't tried it above a cone 6. It's an older kiln with thinner walls than what I would want to push to cone 10.

  • Nice job! How does it work for you? What cone can you reach?
