Turel used a rectangular canvas, 30cm by 39cm for this painting. Using arcylic, Turel has painted the side profile of a bison's head in Los Angeles, Hollywood, USA. Light is reflecting down the full length of the nose, around the eye and on the horn. Bright blue, green and red show the differences in muscle tones on the side of the head. The hair is red hanging limply.

The background is painted in shades of green and brown, representing the landscape where bison used to freely roam.

In the 1800s, after Europeans arrived in America the Bison became endangered due to the increase in hunting. Today herds are being restocked and the bison is a protected animal. The American Plains bison is no longer listed as endangered, but the Wood Bison is on the endangered species list in Canada.
