@LongLiveTheDC10 The 747 flew a lot more people- and is still flying them. Sure, if you allow for idiotic KLM pilots ramming one 747 into another and faulty maintenance on a pressure bulkhead in Japan, the 747 has taken some innocent lives- but you can't blame those on basic design shortcomings- which the DC10 had in spades due to the rush to beat the L1011 to market. Even Convair, the fuselage barrel subcontractor, warned McDonnell-Douglas about the shortcomings of their design.
