Riley Ann Sawyer/ Baby Grace

An attorney for Riley Ann Sawyer's mother says the toddler was beaten to death by her stepfather who lost control because she failed to say "please" and "yes sir."

Attorney Tommy Stickler Junior says the fatal beating happened after Royce Clyde Zeigler II stayed home from work to make sure his wife was following the discipline plan he'd established for the 2-year-old.

Riley is believed to be the girl dubbed "Baby Grace," whose body was found by a fisherman in a plastic box floating in Galveston Bay last month. Authorities are still awaiting the results of a DNA test on the body.

The mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, and Zeigler were arrested Saturday, after Trenor told police she and her husband had killed the girl in July and hid her body in a shed before dumping it in the bay.

Zeigler's attorney says Trenor's story isn't believable.

It makes my stomach turn and my heart ache to also know that during the day long beating, Riley kept telling her mother, "I love you."

As if the daylong details weren't enough to get to me, this little detail just pierces my heart.

As a single mom or a little girl the same age, I have been glued to this story since 2007. It kills me that the mom chose her husband over her child. If she was going to do that, at the very least she could have sent Riley to live with her dad. This baby was so loved- it's so unfortnunate that this happened. My heart goes out to the family that loves her.

@SuspiriaTits These people are my cousins and that pig of a mother took her and nobody knew where she went, not even Riley's father. By the time they found out where she went and were making preparations to go out and get Riley, she was already murdered. All I can hope for now is that these two suffer what one can only describe being brutal and painful.............RIP Riley!!

@SuspiriaTits - Her mother took her away and moved to another state to be with that pig (Rileys stepfather). This was her father and her fathers family that she was taken away from. Her mother became selfish and took Riley away from where she was happy to be with a man that ended up being the reason why Riley was murdered. The mother was too concerned in making this pig happy and complying to the enforcement he was laying down on Riley instead of protecting her own daughter.
