This was the original theme from the pilot and the first series wasn't it? Without the saxophone.

how come this sounds so wierd with the synth in comparison with the 88/90 and 91 version?

There are subtle differences between them, Series 1, 3 and 4 had the same Theme tune. This one is from Series 2 (1989) and is slightly different. The Pilot Movie i posted previously is again different to those used that were used in the Series.
