  • @jjenson2006 i agree. i tried going a plenum gasket once and didnt use anything to hold it and it ripped and i wound up blowing the valve seals on my car

  • I have to replace one of these tomorrow morning on a 2005 impala. It's the same motor. My question is do I need to take off the belt that the pump rests on or is there a way to loosen it. Also, do you need to take the housing off that the hoses are attached to. It looks like you just took that out of the middle...

  • Hello, I have to change one of these tomorrow morning but it's in a 2005 impala. Do you have to take off the belt? Because I have no clue what I am doing...

  • @gestwicki He's using a thin coat of it to hold the gasket in place on one side only, which is ok. I've always done it this way and have never had a leak and so have many mechanics. If you don't do it this way, you risk a mangled gasket as the gasket can move around quite a bit when you're installing it, especially in places where there is very little clearance.

  • How much is the actual water pump itself?

  • NEVER use silicone or rtv on a gasket. read the bottle. rtv is designed to seal metal to metal or metal to plastic. no vehicle manufacturer used silicone or rtv on gaskets from the factory.
