This is a video of a 1918 Victrola IX playing an old 78 rpm record of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." The record was recorded and manufactured by the Victor Talking Machine Company (as was the Victrola). Recording date was approximately 1912. This was sung by the "Trinity Choir."

  • And wow, this was recorded in 1912???

  • Yes, I have a book that lists dates of recordings according to the number on the record, and this particular one was recorded sometime during 1912.

  • Thanks for posting this. 100 years ago those folks sung that song. Would they have believed that 100 years in the future their voices could be accessed worldwide on an electrical communication network ? Kind an ethereal link with the past. Cool!

  • Heavenly! This captures the essence of Christmas in America.

  • You can't go wrong with the old Victrola's. I bet Morasch doesn't have any of these. Just kidding.
