"Music is not a competition" -I agree. It is a form of expression. I don't like to limit my expression either. This is why I don't limit my guitar playing to one genre.
I use to be intimidated with guitar players like Yngwie. I told myself: "I'm a blues player and have no use for that tech. shit". I was allowing intimidation to impede my inner desire to shred.
When people say that shredders play with no feeling, I ask them to define feeling. It comes down to self expression.
