Taken from the video "1988, The year on video". Presented by Scott Lambert. showing the race to release the two cars. "only time will tell if the average australian family agreed"

At the end of this video he says "Perhaps decades from now you'll find this dusty video in the corner of your attic and get out that box we called a video recorder. we hope this brings you happy memories". and that it did! It has heaps of cool stuff on this vid!

  • Haha these comments rock. Bogans arguing about which shit car is better than the other shit car.

  • What a dark era that was for cars...quality and looks were at an all-time low. The EA was a boat with a head gasket made of cheese, and the VN was about as refined as the people that are driving them these days.

  • more sales reps have chosen the falcons over the commodores for over 20 years why? falcons got more room. simple fact

  • @bbbcreations 'the occasional head gasket' At Thompson Ford in Parramatta,NSW.They where replacing 4 out of 10 heads on cars within the first 6 months of warranty. A new design engine which had virtually the same crank, rods and oil pump from the XY 250.Even the bore centers where kept the same to save costs on tooling. It was new Cheap and nasty design.VN spun cam bearings because some weren't given enough bearing clearance. Those failures where less than 1% of production.

  • omg the vn looks fkn ugly with is plastic rims

  • Well I disagree with the "bogan" comments.

The VN got the same fuel economy as the Camry but was vastly more powerful (okay the interior went a bit squidgy with age and ring life was disappointing (about 170k) - but this wouldnt affect a new buyer).

The 3.9L EA "Super Pursuit" was a grade A dog.

The "Pacer" with a 3.2, a 3 speed auto and TBI was much more reliable, although the body problems still existed.

The 4.0L "EA II" had most of the problems fixed - but more fuel consumption.

  • @bbbcreations are you sure that you know what your on about ??

  • @MrGrog88 lol

  • @Mechknight73 The VN was spinning crankshaft bearings like it was going out of fashion. Go to any holden dealership at the time and you would have seen stuffed engines a plenty on the workshop floor. Compared to the EA doing the occasional head gasket. Hardly a comparison. The 3.8 was a 30 y/o engine already when the commodore was released. At least the 4.0l ford was an Australian engine, and is still at the top as far as aussie sixes are concerned.

  • VN POWER!

  • @likelysuspectful

My parents used one as our family car for 6 years and not a single major problem...

  • @Mechknight73 That makes sense. You build a car like poo (shit), people won't want to buy your cars.
