Good dealie. With the new Wine 1.1.9 I may just delete my windows partition. I recommend everybody try Ubuntu, and with the live CD you can without affecting any of your computers configuration, files/filesystem, etc.. www.ubuntu.com

I used a couple different guides and forums to get this working. I will try to post links soon. (Google it for now)
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64, Wine 1.1.9, and SPORE 1.02.
Getting Wine 1.1.9 required me to add a software repository from WineHQ.

  • How do I install it? When I try to load it with Wine, it does nothing. When I went to browse the disc, it only showed the Mac version. ~Ubuntu 11.04

  • @websurf90 What version of wine are you using?

  • @esLangvin Wine 1.2.2-0ubuntu6

  • @websurf90 Should work. I don't see any reason you wouldn't see the launcher executable on the disc... I wish I could help more. Do you get any error messages or anything?

  • @esLangvin Nope. :(

  • For me it's don't work. I launch Spore and I see my CPU running, but nothing to screen after 5 min.

  • @esLangvin Take a look at 1:26... Those lines in the planet should not be there and when you get down there they are huge canyons (which also should not be there).

  • @jacknjellify I did get some strange graphic artifacts, but speed was better in Wine on 64 bit Ubuntu vs. WinXP 32 bit . I have not installed 64 bit windows yet, sorry, but I only have 4 gb of ram in that machine so it shouldn't matter too much.

The graphic artifacts could be a game breaker, depending on the game, but the WineHQ has a pretty good resource on tuning settings to get things perfect... If ur willing to spend time tweaking.

  • Is the performance any worse than in Windows?

I am thinking of installing Spore + C&C + GA on Ubuntu 10.04.

  • how do you crack spores drm i bought spore and had it on vista for a while but vista went to hell so i decided to go with ubuntu and i cant even play spore >:(
