while ago I made a video called, "Does Eating Meat Make YOU Manly?"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH7UNizlH5o(. In the video I argue that eating meat makes one less manly because a diet high in animal products is associated with higher rates of impotence and prostate cancer and that meat eaters have lower testosterone levels than vegans.

I just received a comment on that video from someone called 1957stan. He said, "Yep, I need a carrot head telling me what a man is? What a joke.. Just go on with your feeble existence ok? Here is a news flash for ya moron... There are just as many cancer agents in your food as there are in mine.. Unless you grow everything you eat there are no exceptions." This video is my response to 1957stan.

1957stan, I can tell my video hit a nerve with you because you start out with name calling and insults, "carrot head, feeble existence, moron." I am not sure how this furthers your argument, but I am sure it makes you feel more manly to degrade those with whom you disagree. In my experience when people resort to name calling and insults it is because they feel threatened and lack any evidence to support their own position.

After you are finished with the name calling and insults and finally get to your argument you state that, "There are just as many cancer agents in your food as there are in mine.. Unless you grow everything you eat there are no exceptions." While this has little to do with the argument of whether or not eating meat makes you manly, it is worth responding to. A quick search on scholar.google.com for the terms vegetables + cancer and meat + cancer results in thousands of peer reviewed research demonstrating the link between high vegetable intake and lower cancer rates and, conversely, high meat consumption and and high cancer rates. 1957stan, the science doesn't support your argument. If you would like to back your argument with some peer reviewed research I would be happy to continue this conversation.

1957stan, l looked at your YouTube Profile. You start it out with a fairly long bit about how, according to a report produced by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (a completely unbiased organization I am sure), hunting and fishing have a major positive economic impact on every state in the nation. Essentially you are arguing that killing wild animals is good because it benefits the economy. Guess what, when your neighbors house burns down that benefit the economy as well. Every car accident benefits the economy. Every heart attack benefits the economy. Every war benefits the economy. Just because something has a positive economic impact doesn't mean it is good or worthwhile. According to your logic we should be promoting and supporting house fires, car accidents, disease and war. I don't know about you, but I would rather live in a world with less of all those things, even if in the short term the current economy would suffer.

Your profile says your interests and hobbies are making archery- bow hunting equipment and Martial arts. You say, "good fighting is good fighting." Obviously your identity is based killing and fighting. Your sense of self is based on violence. Violence doesn't make the world a better place. Wouldn't rather leave the world better than you found it? Are you so emotionally attached to you current self-concept that you will ignore the facts or are you man enough to take meat off your menu?"

  • If I would follow your extreme logistic about pain and comfort of a living thing I could do the same thing for plants. If you look at a mono-grown field do you think this is natural or good for nature? It is not because it is a desert for life, nothing can live in such a field. If you would look at the "comfort" of these plants, stuck together and sprayed with insecticides. Also before there where those killing fields there was a forest, killed by humans.Plants have rights to opposed to animals.

  • You do understand that eating animals indirectly kills more plants than eating a vegan diet don't you?

  • Every person has it own acceptable level of violence in order to survive. You are not different then we are, the only thing is you think you are superiour to us because you don't kill yourself animals. If you would be an Amish or believe in Jainism I could eventually accept your critics, but you would not be speaking on a computer would you?You would not take advantage of the system.Your "are you serious" proves you never put your dogmas in question, but you put others in question.Strange.

  • You do understand that the resources and therefore the "violence" so support someone eating a whole, unprocessed plant-based diet are significantly less than what is required to support a meat based diet don't you?

  • You people talk alot about pain of the animals but you never talk about the pain of other liveforms like the one you eat.Science proved that plants feel some stress or discomfort when agressed.Pain comes in all kinds of forms, humans feel some kind of pain, animals feel another kind of pain as do plants. But it doesn't seem to bother you that you eat in fact plants alive as opposed to meat wich is organicly dead once the animal is dead.

  • Are you serious?

  • Well, before I make any changes to my own diet I will do my own research. Because honestly, someone going on about how killing animals is wrong telling me not to eat meat makes me think there might be one bias here...

I can say one thing for hunting though. In Iowa, where I live, there are few natural predators and because of that hunting actually does help the environment. Without it there are major over population problems. With deer.

  • ! Have you thought about intellectus diet (search on google for intellectus424dietcom)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker lost crazy amounts of weight with it.

  • YOU. ARE. AWESOME. Keep being awesome. c:

  • This guys weird?

  • Eating meat makes you less manly and more of animal. Man is a social being who understands the sufferings and pain of others and never likesbeing hurt or hurting others. Man does not like to do things to others which he never likes to be done to himself.

Think on every act you do, does it makes ou a man or an animal

  • Just think of the fear, agony, pain and suffering of the animal. Think of the mind set and possible thoughts of the people who are doing the slaughter and processing of the meat. All those negative vibrations are in the meat that comes before you with added flavors and decoration. Seriously folks, the damage that it does to your mind, thoughts and emotional development is far more than its advantage of providing nutrients to physical body. Think over this

  • do u have to be gay to be vegan? or does it just help?

  • 1957stan is an anti-vegan troll. I just ignore him. He's been having a go at me (and many other vegans) for ages.
