This is an evolution that began with part 1...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1fMWyo8zKU

Then, in her "Way Better Than Talking" video, Bobo showed us she had learned how to ask for something and respond to us in conversational form....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UjKLRng3Uk

Now, we have asked her to respond to the person (who she cannot see) by talking in context and answering specific questions asked, via a telephone.

Thanks to our friend, Anne, who was willing to take the time to have a conversation with a bird! LOL

  • Wow Bobo's voice is good

  • @videomakingstudio

glad you brought this up :)

in case some people here don't know...african greys learn to talk by imitating the voice quality of someone they know--typically the person they like best. with bobo, even though she's a female, she liked her male person, so she talks in his male voice. it was a bit weird to hear a 'him' and then say 'her' --but she's a 'she', and we got used to it. people she meets will, of course, get sorta flustered when trying to use a pronoun for her LOL

  • Bobo is clearly not a big talker, but seems like she pick her words carefully :)

  • @erlendse true...in fact, when people ask if she talks, we say 'not a lot'--since the expectation of a talking parrot is that they are always saying something. Bobo will talk when she wants to communicate, but then spends the rest of her time in one of three modes...

    -silent

    -doing sound effects

    -talking 'conure'

i will put up a video shortly showing how she uses one alternative way of communicating.

you are right--although she will babble at times, she pretty much only talks with purpose.
