Normal Mapping

Nomal Mapping or Dot3 Bump mapping update. Normal Map are used to give additional details to the textures. The normal info. from the mesh itself is no longer in the light computations but form the normal map associated with the texture. It gives a feeling that texture is not a plain surface, but a byumpy one, without generating additional polygons on the mesh. Watch the video in HIGH DEFINATION to get a better look at bumps on the mesh.

Normal maps used in this demo are generated in Adobe Photoshop using the NVIDIA NORMAL MAP plugin.

Info:
Useless Engine is my own 3D rendering engine thet i'm developing in C++ using Visual C++ 9.0 IDE. DirectX 9 (DirectX June 2010 SDK) and HLSL.

While loading the x mesh i used D3DXComputeTangentFrameEx, but you need to change your vertex format so as to pass Tangents and Binormals to the shader

  • nice work. how do you calculate the tangents ???
