@Pocket310 that's not correct. The revolution was actually Soviet inspired, and it was left wing groups that started shooting SAVAK and regular policemen and starting the demonstrations. The Clerics jumped in to get their part, and Khomenie was coming hoime anyways, so he became a figurehead. Once he came home, the media left the leftists behind, and when Khomenie took power, he slaughtered over 250,000 of the original demonstrators and leaders, 200 times more than the Shah ever killed

uhh....nazanin979 is actually right. so no need to read books. CIA funded coup d'état which sparked anger from Iranian students who then took over the embassy only to start a war with iraq, in which the US supplied the Iraqis with technology and muscle aka missiles, weapons, etc
