@amoyajh see the episode "Family Quarrel". They really do love each other and recognize good qualities in each other, but most of the time the show makes their dysfunctional relationship over-the-top. "Family Quarrel" best depicts why they would be together--in my opinion, i've only watched through to this episode :)
