More recently, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) concluded that the presence of pressurized air during the research might have had a beneficial effect on motor functions. It stated: "The results of the only truly randomized trial were difficult to interpret because of the use of pressurized room airthe control group. As both groups improved, the benefit of pressurized air and of HBOT at 1.3 to 1.5 atm should both be examined in future studies....The authors of the trial thought that the children in both groups improved because participation in the study provided an opportunity for more stimulating interaction with their parents.... This is speculative, however, because there was no evidence to suggest that the parents and their children had less time together, or less stimulating interaction, before he study began....The possibility that pressurized room air had a beneficial effect on motor function should be considered the leading explanation."
