They actually train the eagle in only 5 months. I own this series. They catch the eagles in their nest when they're young. Right before they're able to leave the nest on their own. They then train the eagle for its first 5mo of being able to fly and such, and basically take over the role of "mother". It would take years to learn how to train an eagle. But the actual eagle training is relatively short.
