  • knot bad!

  • Thanks killer...ya I was so busy watching to see how the Cobalt looked taking off I missed the light BAD! lol...

  • Not all drivers are created equally. Just because your car can go fast, doesnt mean the person driving can drive it to its full potential. That is with out a doubt the SS/SC. You can hear it whine!

  • True. I was getting him off the line pretty good...plus, to his credit, he was having some problems...it was overheating for some reason. Like I said, if it was a 1/4, he'd have blown me away...he was RIGHT with me and coming strong at the 1/8th...LOL. Still fun!

  • thats the problem with the 1/8th mile... it gives the less powered car an advantage, by giving the more powerful car less time to gain proper traction and put its power down....it also makes the launch and reaction time far more important than they otherwise would be.

  • Even in the 1/4, it's who's off the line quickest, with more control and who can 'hook up' better that usually wins the race. And drag racing IS all about getting the car set up properly so that you DO hook up sooner. I've beaten faster cars in the 1/4 also because I can put my power down in a controlled manner instead of wasting energy spinning. That's where the skill comes in. So, no, the lesser powered car doesn't have an advantage. If your car isn't set up right/you don't drive it right...

  • the overheating was probably a heat soaked supercharger. When the supercharger gets hot, it heats up the air going in the engine, making less power due to less dense hot air, probably over 140 degrees, even on a cool night

  • I'm not saying that the lower powered car would lose, just that it has an advantage in the 1/8th that is far less pronounced in the 1/4.

It is especially true for turbocharged FWD cars....not only do they have a harder time putting a lot of power down, but they have less time in maximum boost in the 1/8th than they do the 1/4.

All I am saying is that the 1/8th is not as accurate at showing which 'car' is faster....although it may be good at showing which 'driver' is faster.

  • I didnt say that it wasn't about hook-up in the 1/4, I just said that is it MORE important in the 1/8th.

Its just simple physics, if you have a hook-up distance of N...then your main acceleration distance in the 1/8th is 201M - N...for the quarter its 402M - N.

It gives you far less time after you hook up to use your acceleration...simple...there is less time to correct your launch mistakes or your cars traction problems.

  • well youre just a pompiss douche bag!
