Nawab Mirza Khan (1831--1905) (Urdu: نواب مرزا خان, Hindi: नवाब मिर्ज़ा ख़ान), commonly known as Daagh Dehlvi (Urdu: داغ دہلوی, Hindi: दाग़ देहलवी) was an outstanding Mughal poet famous for his Urdu ghazals and belonged to the Delhi school of Urdu poetry. He wrote poems and ghazals under the takhallus (Urdu word for nom de plume) Daagh Dehlvi (the meanings of Daagh, an Urdu noun, include stain, grief and taint while Dehlvi means belonging to or from Delhi).

Daagh had started reciting poetry at the age of ten. His forte was the ghazal. His poetry does not wallow in despair. The tone of his poems is rather exuberant. He was a self-acknowledged romantic but contrary to the impression one gets from his poetry, he eschewed wine. Usage of common words and phrases and thus simplicity was distinctive of his style. His work comprises four volumes consisting of 16,000 couplets.
Daagh mostly wrote ghazals which are sets of two-line couplets. Some of his couplets are highly quotable. For example, Tu hai harjai to apnaa bhi yehi taur sahi, tu nahin aur sahi, aur nahin, aur sahi
Having remained under patronage of highly established poet like Zauq, Daagh had numerous disciples including the poet of the East Allama Iqbal, Jigar Moradabadi, Seemab Akbarabadi and Ahsen Marehravi, though a widely quoted anecdote relates that when asked to designate his successor as the leading Urdu poet of his age, he replied Bekhudain [the two Bekhuds], referring to Bekhud Badayuni and Bekhud Dehlvi.[1]
His ghazals have been sung by noted ghazal singers including Ghulam Ali, Malika Pukhraj, Mehdi Hassan, and Abida Parveen. ( Wiki )

Penaz Masani an Indian Ghazal singer who started singing in 1981 and has made over 20 albums in following years [1]
In her career, she has won a number of awards, including the title of 'Shehzadi Tarunnam' , by the state government of Uttar Pradesh 1996 and the 11th 'Kalakar Award' for 'Outstanding Contribution to Music', in 2002.[2] Having graduated from Sydenham College, Masani has worked as a playback singer for Bollywood, in more than 50 Hindi movies and sung in over 10 languages. Under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, she has performed in countries as far reaching as Germany,[3] South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Vietnam.[4][5]
She was honoured with Padma Shree award on 26 January 2009

The beauty of Daagh Dehlv's poetry lies in the simplicity of language, humor & sweet satire. His famous shaer, ''Tu Hai Harjaaii To Apnaa Bhi Yehi Taur Sahi;; Tu Nahin Aur Sahi, Aur Nahin, Aur Sahi'' reflects an entirely different approach from the prevalent mood of poetry at that time.

This ghazal has all the beauty of language, the beauty of thought, expressed in simple, delicate words. Penaz Masani did quite a justice in singing it as well.
