"Unsung" indeed. A fantastic finisher with very quick reading of what was needed. Great adjustability in his feet, great positional sense, and great variation of finishes. Was usually well ahead of the game in his thinking. If the chance was there, it was instantly seen and taken, often before the defence even saw the danger. He rarely missed the target.

Smudger was a legend
I think my favourite of his (other than the CWC goal) was an away goal at leeds, a volley, but not the one shown in this clip.
He was so interesting to watch aswell, did so much that wasn't seen

The real Alan Smith , the current one at newcastle should always be known as 'the current not as good Alan Smith ' until he achieves anything or scores half as many goals he doesnt deserve the name :P

Since we call the Arsenal Alan Smith "Smudger," maybe we should call the Newcastle Alan Smith "Drudger."
