I have rerecorded Fischer's Fuga Prima. The first time I recorded it I did not have enough light and I used a bad microphone.

Now I am recording the sound directly from the mixer that I have the organ plugged into. I do not have a camcorder, but a digital camera with poor sound recording capabilities. As a result the video is of me "finger synching" to the recording.

  • It is thrilling to hear this. The attack and decay of the reeds are beautiful. Even without reverb enhancement, the harmonics really make for an extremely rich and satisfying tone.

  • Thank you for your kind comments. I want to point out that the music for this video was recorded straight from the mixer without it going through any speaker system. Even when I played the organ dry, there is no other distortion effects. Have you recorded your WurliTzer this way before? I really enjoyed the sound of your 4602.

Hmmm, mutual admiration society going on here. :-)

  • @glendwr and @Organgrinder010 I understand that you both have electrostatic Wurlitzers, as does retrochad, but what is the other electrostatic Wurlitzer which is in a smaller cabinet and is known as the model 30, model 31, etc. These organs are the same reed capacitance organs as yours , but sport the name Orgatron. Is this the same name that is on the ID plates on your Wurlitzers? Nobody ever refers to them as Orgatrons even though the name was used in several ads- see Billboard Jun 23, 1945

  • I would certainly be able to record in this manner. Recently a pedal contact broke off, so I am going to have to pull the organ out again to fix it. Maybe I'll hook my mixer in and make a few recordings while I have easy access to the components. Tomorrow, If I have time.

Mutual admiration indeed. At last I am not the only one who realizes the majesty of the reeds. :-)
