What is the connection between Sawer Brown and Brooke Berringer or the University of Nebraska. Why did they dedicate this song to him. Anyone know?

Brook and the band became very close friends a couple years leading up to the tradgedy.

I work at a country station in north-central Nebraska, and every year, the Friday before the first Husker game of the season I make it a point to play this song on the air in Brook's memory.

I was heartbroken when I heard that Brook died, I was looking forward to going to the "National Championship Party" which was canceled and had hopes of seeing where Brook went in the NFL. His NFL team was going to be my new favorite. RIP Brook you'll be remembered forever.

"We were asked to perform at the University of Nebraska during their 'Second Title' National Championship Celebration. I was asked to write a song for this event by my good friend Brook Berringer, Quarterback for the Cornhuskers. The song was never heard and the celebration never took place due to Brook's tragic death one day prior to the event. #18 The Nebraska Song was inspired by Brook and is dedicated to his memory -Mark." @bahaugse They were good friends, Mark Miller was a pallbearer at Berringer's funeral. The song was written before Brook Berringer died.

@arohn2007 Actually he did get to hear it, I went to a FCA deal at the University a few years ago and Mark Miller was there and talked about his relationship with Brooke and said that he sang it to him over the phone a few days before he died in the plane crash. You can definitely tell from his stories about Brooke that they were pretty close and when he sings it you can tell that he has some troubles holding back his emotions

@maritrist Yeah it is. The sad part is that Brook never got to hear the song, he was killed before Sawyer Brown released it on their new album. Mark Miller did a terrific job singing it and he's got a great voice. He sounds just as good in a outdoor concert..To me thats how you know someone can truely sing.
