Brazilian president blames financial crisis on white and blue-eyed

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown must have been a bit uncomfortable at a press conference yesterday in Brazil as part of a G20 summit, where the Brazilian president delivered a somewhat shocking one-liner about the financial crisis.

@xaviqaz Do you realize that Lula is a white man himself? And that his Brazilian wife and daughter have blue eyes too? He is criticizing elites and especially in Latin America but also in other parts of the world the elite is majority white. That is what he is criticizing it was just a saying that was misinterpreted. He's basically criticizing his own people because he is an elite (although from a poor background) and is white. So how is this racism?

He's just stating the obvious. The world crisis was triggered by rich people (mostly white) trying to get richer by 'gambling' in the financial system.

As a Brazilian, I know the way people express themselves, and I can garantee Lula didn't mean to be racist. But very frequently he made poor choice of words, and ended up making himself look bad.

Yes, he is refering to bankers and business men from Wall Street. However, he ilustrated them as "blue eyed white people" because he could not give names. Actually, Lula is right, the highest elite is totally guilt for that global crisis. Poor people should not pay for that, they are all inocent. Lula has fought against hunger and prejudice in the world. He is the best president of the world and one of the greatest human beings of History. He deserves a Nobel of Peace.
