The first of Jackson's four straight European golds, won in 13.18 seconds and as usual followed home by Tony Jarrett (13.21). In third was Dietmar Koszewski of West Germany (13.50). Not quite sure who was responsible for the electronic timing but to say they got it a bit wrong on all counts would be something of an understatement!
If you've ever seen a recording of the 1985 European Junior final the clock on screen said 14.09 yet Ridgeon and Jackson officially timed at 13.46 and 13.69 respectively for 1st & 2nd.
It was always a trait of Jackson's to "dip under the beam" in a close finish like this one and also of Jarrett in his early career. The photocells are about 3.5-4ft off the ground so it takes a bit of effort to do that.

@201081hero I think Jackson could take the hypothetical "World's Biggest Dipper"!! Must have been borderline for going the proverbial arse over tit! Seen him on plenty of other footage getting under the beam.
