Rob breaking his old 40 record of 4.40 with a 4.38. Other people clocked him in at 4.27 though... Time it yourself...

@daveslyk you're correct there usually is an certain amount of error when hand timing 40's and usually this will cause you to run a faster 40 than you would with FAT timing, however when Rob Haynes ran his 40 @ various combines he posted times between 4.28 and 4.32 so actually this timing is a little slow. thank you for your comment tho

It looks like they are hand timing these 40's. (most high schools do). NFL, college, and most combine camps will use FAT (fully automatic timing). If you want his "true" 40 yard dash time, it needs to be FAT. To calculate a general translation from hand timed to FAT, you need to add .24 seconds to hand timed runs. So, for example, if this run was 4.38 hand timed, then for a true FAT 40 yard dash time, it would be about 4.62.

@kday130 The difference between hand timed and professional Laser timing (FAT) is .05 at most?? I hope you're kidding. Take a couse in biomechanics, physics, or physiology and learn about reaction times. To make it easier, just google fully automatic timing and read about it. And no, hand times are not very accurate. By rule, they are only accurate to .1 seconds (which is A LOT in a 40 yd dash). Yes, the NFL combine uses partial automatic timing, but a true 40yd time needs to be FAT.

@daveslyk not true at all... NFL combine starts are all hand timed and the finishes are automated.. Don't just make up shit. the difference between hand timed and professional laser timing in .05 at most.. and many times, the hand timings are very accurate. You can't just at .24 to everything, that's ridiculous...

40 yard dash FAT do not exist...only when the race is started by a gun or something else, can you use FAT. From high school to the NFL, you always start the 40 by hand, and either finish by hand or electronically. If we used a gun and FAT in 40s...the fastest one would be a like a mid 4.4

Second, as said above, hand timing speeds your time up quite a bit. There is no way in hell this kid would run even a 4.40 using a FAT. Sure his fast, but your retarded if you think he could run a 4.2
