IT IS TRULLY AMAZING WHAT HE ACHIEVED IN THOSE YEARS. UNBELIEVABLE PIANO PLAYING AND WE CAN SAFELY SAY THAT IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THESE PIECES GOT PLAYED THE WAY THEY SHOULD. BUT THE LIGHTS DID NOT SHINE FOR EVER, EVEN FOR HIM...WHEN I HEARD HIM IN LONDON IN THE EIGHTIES THERE WERE NO "MARVEILLES" LIKE THESE FANTASTIC MIROIRS...

@delf4eg1 The video has 4 parts, that's the 4 in the title.

i could die
-
Noctuelles ("Night Moths") - first.
Oiseaux tristes ("Sad Birds") - second.
Une barque sur l'océan ("A boat on the Ocean") - third.
Alborada del gracioso ("The Gracioso's Aubade") - fourth.
La vallée des cloches ("The Valley of Bells") - fifth.
So, it isn't 4/4, it's 5/5.

I fully agree with you. I find Richters version of this play "La vallée des cloches" even better than the one played by Ravel. The atmosphere created by Richter is dark and warm.

how does he get those sounds... I am blown away by this performance

magnifica esecuzione di un capolavoro
This Ravel:Miroirs posted by truecrypt is the greatest piano playing I've heard on YouTube, bar none. When Richter was inspired it's as though he was making up the music in the spot; never have I heard such colorful imagination coupled with such technical mastery!
