is there any way to do this "over wifi communication" without the actual need for a server (any computer) and without participating in developer program? So direct messages iPhone-wifi-arduino? Thanks

@DjMatisS Yes, there are several wifi 'shields' available for the Arduino.
There is no need for a 'developer program' as the iPhone interface is done
with the app 'TouchOSC'.

@studiospike but touch OSC always needs a computer in the chain, doesn't it? The question is if it is possible to connect iPhone to an arduino (hotspot or whatever) but without the computer in chain.

@DjMatisS have you checked out the 'Ardumote' app? Might do the trick.

how much did it cost to make all of this (not including the iphone)

@brannonboyz I spent around $60 on an Arduino 'starter kit' that included a bunch of LEDs, jumper wires etc....
