After the wide success of Killinarden Community School's film 'Johnny Splitz' Killinarden Community School was happy to work again with South Dublin County Council and filmmaker Olivia Fitzsimons. School students created two short films called 'Carry and Vinny'. The film shoots were supported by the Tallaght Young Filmmakers.
The idea for these short dramas came from the previous development process on 'Johnny Splitz'. The young people on the project were studying famous artists but finding it difficult to relate to them. However when they started to explore the artist's life stories further they were drawn to their turbulent and fascinating past. 'Carry and Vinny', is initially based on the students' study of the lives of the famous artists, Carravaggio and Vincent Van Gogh, and looks at what it might be like to be a young artist growing up today. The young filmmakers worked with Olivia Fitzsimons to create colourful drama, whilst each piece will harness the creative style and personality of the artist through story and visual references.
Each short looks at the difficulties of being a brilliant young artist in the context of a diverse and changing community. '
In 'Vinny', Vinny feels that no one can see her, and she feels nothing. She can't fit in but appears the perfect student. When Paul sticks up for her in school, there is a glimpse of light, but soon she succumbs to her own doubts and fears and rejects a chance of friendship.
I love this film, The girl reminds me of a young Ashley Dillon :D
