@ponticwarrior don't forget the old name of Romania was Vlahia ans Moldo vlahia or Valahia,Moldo-Valahia !still hungarians names romanians olah and germans Woloch !all romanians were named in midleage VLAHI!IT IS THE OLD NAME OF ALL ROMANIANS!read it in the greek history Vlahia kai Moldovlahia !it has nothing to do with greek language!

I dont know maybe in greek is used the same term for both ethnic groups but in Romanian there are separate terms. We call Aromâni or Armâni( Rrâmani) the Vlach shepherds from the Balkans and Romei the greek-byzantine inhabitants of the Eastern-Roman Empire.

So both ethnic groups ( north and south of the Danube) descend from the same roots .Now about the confusion with the term Romios. Romios was the term that pointed the inhabitants of the Byzantine empire.The Byzantine Empire was called Romania cause originally was the Eastern Roman Empire but in time the population suffered total assimilation in the greek culture and language. But the Vlachs ( Aromani) from the Balkans have nothing to do with these Romios.

The Vlachs from the Balkans are the descendents of these Dacian population and also of the Thracian and Illyrian tribes that live there and who were romanised during the roman rule. Such Thracian tribes were Bessi , Moesi etc. This is why Romanians and Vlachs from the Balkans( Aromanians , Megleno-Romanians , Istro-Romanians , Morlachs , Vlachs from Timoc region ) are related .Daco-Getians were a branch of Thracians.

Romanians descend from romanised Daco-Getai  tribes that inhabit the territory of ancient Dacia ( modern day România) . During the roman rule some of the Daco-Getai population was deported by the roman emperors south of the Danube ( where the romans established the provinces Dacia Malvensis and Ruipa Thraciae) for punitive porposes ( they use to rebellion very often) .

You are right u hv common roots with the albanians but u have no historical & linguistic proofs for the theory that u both descend from thracian & illyrian tribes since these people populated an area outside of modern romanian territory! The term vlach derives from ancient greek blacha the shepherds stick, & Romania is the Greek name f the Byzantine Empire.

Vlach , Vlasi , Vlaski , Vallach is the name that other nations give to the Romanians and to other ethnic groups very close related to them. Maybe those ethnic groups , like the Vlachs from Epirus and also Aromânii and Râmânii (Rremenji) dont have Romanian national consciounce but this not mean that culturaly and lingvistically they are not related.

Vlachs are ancient Trachians and Illyrians that were romanised during the roman empire.But since they were romanised more then 2000 years ago they are not albanians. They are an ethnic group that share"s a common origin with the Albanians and who is culturaly and lingvistically related to the Romanian Nation. But is sure that they have nothing to do with greeks. This is just a theory that the greek governement created in order to assimilate tthe Vlachs.
