WTF is wrong with this THING called Ebert? And his fans?
-
@paxpaul well you got a decade on me so you probably relate better and have more memories with FBDO. Sort of like I'm sure American Pie will for me in ten years.
-
@StunningSteve You gotta think that the Siskel onscreen was a lampoon of himself irl. In real life Gene had John Travolta's disco suit from Saturday Night Fever.
-
Siskel DID miss the point.

@scottl20az I guess I just never grew up. I loved FBDO when I was a kid in the 80s and I love it now at age 41. Sure, some bits of the silly physical humor don't hold up, but I still love the film. But "Back to School" has aged MUCH better, no doubt.

Even Ebert held back on his review of Ferris. The stuff with the Principal wasn't funny ???

I absolutely loved FBDO when I was a kid. Taped it off Showtime and watched it at least 3 times a week.... now in my 30s I can't imagine what I liked about the movie. It doesn't hold up at all.
"Back to School" does. Rodney Dangerfield at his best

WHAT? HOW DARE GENE HAVE OPINIONS, WE SHOULD ALL THINK THE SAME WAY. THE NAZIS WERE RIGHT.......
-
Fuck Ferris Beuller or however the fuck you spell his stupid name...that movie was lame. Pathetic hipsterism disguised as a jaunty farce, it all rang superficial and fake with it's contrived humor. Breakfast Club will forever be Hughs' masterpiece.

John Hughes is also dead....I think gene missed the point but he shouldn't burn in hell....because hell doesn't exist.
I hate how any time someone disagrees with Siskel, Ebert, or Roeper they claim that the critic "missed the point." Have you people considered that not everyone shares the same taste in films? Films are like all art - they are subjective.

@robotpanda77, Don't you ever criticize movies? Does that make you lowly? Don't you ever have an opinon about works of creativity? It's true that Ferris did enrich the lives of countless people. But by that same token, there are also a lot of people whose lives were enriched by S&E. Just because you don't agree with Siskel's opinion on Ferris Bueller doesn't mean he should "burn in hell." There is also no artistic integrity over not having any personal opinion at all about works of art.
