This was the RPM2Night show broadcast the night of the 2001 Daytona 500. Remember that this was the first race after ESPN lost their NASCAR rights to Fox & NBC. Because of losing those rights, NASCAR did not allow ESPN to use video tape on the RPM2Night show, reserving them for Fox's NASCAR show exclusively, which is why there are only still pictures of the crash. When I see stuff like this from the day it happened, I get that same empty feeling and feeling of shock I had. I was not an Earnhardt fan, to the contrary I couldn't stand him and initially laughed at his wreck until they showed the replay. It was such a shock. I'd just turned 14 a couple months earlier, I'd been a fan all that time so he'd been such a huge part of my life, and in an instant he was gone. I miss him and what he brought to the table terribly.

What's sad is that he won Most Popular Driver Award posthumously sadly and didn't get to experience it. One of his goals. Dale, you got your goal accomplished, it's too bad you didn't get to experience it and didn't get that 8th championship you woulda won probably.

nascar is never the same never will be its unfortunate that it takes a death for people to make changes to the car the sports much boring now that dale isnt around you dont see anyone playing around with the pace car or having enough balls to shake someones cage
