On 14 May 2002 ten members of the radical Network Against Prohibition (NAP) invaded the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly during debate in Parliament House in Darwin. The activists known as Napistas were protesting against proposed 'Drug House' laws that would give police unprecedented powers to search people within the vicinity of declared 'drug houses' where it was suspected that drugs were being sold. Debate ended in chaos as placard waving protestors stood on the Dispatch table to avoid security officers, while Gary Meyerhoff gave a media interview on his mobile phone. When they had made their point the Napistas left the Chamber. After a prolonged series of court cases involving laws dating back to Oliver Cromwell, Mr Stuart Highway and Rob Inder-Smith served time in Darwin's notorious Berrimah prison. Gary Meyerhoff died in 2006.
