This is an animation of the outer grounds and the inside of the memorial. The inside consists of water falling from a height of 30 feet and an underground memorial tomb where unidentified remains are layed to rest 70 feet below the structure.
It looks like a giant toilet.Thats extremely disrespectful to those victims and survivors of 9/11.I think it would be better if our tax payer money went to the twin towers to be remade rather than billions to the one world trade center, wait a second, i thought it was freedom tower, i guess their offended at freedom.Wow.And also That towers vulnerable to truckside bombings and has terrible elevators.Please, if you respect the victims, rebuild the twin towers not just one.
Ok I understand your point, I have to only half agree as we did have an attack underground in 1993, overall the entire site itself both above ground and below ground is sacred. Thanks for clearing that up for me, either way I look forward to going once it's completed to pay my respects, mourn and think.
@Emmjaye4life For several reasons. Underground makes it feel like a tomb. The memorial will never see the light of day underground. An underground design is a death trap. The idea of a below ground memorial (one not seen from street level) doesnt seem right to many of the family members of the victims since the attacks and the loss of life occurred high above the granite pit that is now all that is left of the World Trade Center
Most of the 9/11 family members strongly support the twin towers II complex memorial wich is obove ground and far better also looks more like a memorial to the victims, but those in charge wont have it.
@Hotters70602
Here's a demolitions expert who says it was a controlled demolition.

An underground parking garage?! What an immense waste of an opportunity to build something great. Shameful.

I agree. You can thank Maya Lin, designer of the Vietnam memorial, for her influence to sway the other judges to choose the "underground" theme.

Design feels like a cold tomb. Not inspirational nor is it an effective solution.
