The University of Queensland's School of Journalism and Communication has over its 87 year history produced generations of competent journalists who have and continue to work around the world. In no small part that legacy has been based on the publication of student newspapers, most of which have gone under the 'Independent' banner. Over many years, long time Journalist and educator Bruce Grundy helped steer the newspaper and in this audio slideshow remembers the newspaper's success in 'boot camping' students into journalism. Bruce retired in 2007 and sadly The Independent went with him, as the school moved to emphasise online journalism.
