Keating criticises bank mergers

Former Prime Minister Paul Keating says the Federal Government should not have allowed the big four banks to buy some of their smaller competitors under the cover of the global financial crisis.

Like him or loathe him .. anyone with half a brain cannot seriously deny that Keating is highly-intelligent. While this breeds excessive ego .. & this was probably his biggest failing as a politician .. he is always worth listening to. Sadly .. he never possessed the ability as a politician to get in touch with the common voting public .. the everyday ordinary Australians. He'd have been better-served to be a private-sector executive, a la Turnbull.

"They'll put their margins up".. exactly what happened when the opportunity came with the RBA changing the cash rate. At least this makes the RBA's job easier and eventually should encourage replacements in the second tier.
