opening of Danish TV-show Riget (The Kingdom in English) from Lars Von Trier. The translation of the spoken text:

The Kingdom Hospital rests on ancient marshland
where the bleaching ponds once lay.
Here the bleachers moistened their great spans of cloth.
The steam evaporating from the wet cloth
shrouded the place in permanent fog.
Centuries later the hospital was built here.
The bleachers gave way to doctors and researchers,
the best brains in the nation and the most perfect technology.
To crown their work they called the hospital The Kingdom.
Now life was to be charted, and ignorance and superstition
never to shake the bastions of science again.
Perhaps their arrogance became too pronounced,
and their persistent denial of the spiritual.
For it is as if the cold and damp have returned.
Tiny signs of fatigue are appearing in the solid, modern edifice.
No living person knows it yet, but the gateway to the Kingdom
is opening once again.

I dont know the song, but they are clearly singing something like "moritori te salutant" :)

What is sung in the intro tune is just gibberish Latin, I have the dvds where Von Trier explains it :-)

it is certainly not only latin, because at one point (near the end) they sing "one two three for five six seven" :)

Awesome opening sequence. I love the claustrophobic feel, the expressionistic elements. Love reading the sub-titles instead of dubbing in English. Makes me want to learn Danish and/or Swedish now. Love the dark feel feel and the excellent casting.  Just found this last night on Netflix.

Some of you people exhibit a pretty vile habit; you come to a video about a great series but for some reason you can't say anything nice about it without insulting someone else (Stephen King in this case) in the process. Can't you just praise good work, are you such negative people? Don't you know that compliments mean nothing when they're coupled with insults? It's an insult to have your name used to bash someone else! I'm pretty sure Lars Von Trier wouldn't appreciate those comments.
