Paulina and Rachel--Talking About Jake, and a Job Offer

Paulina doesn't blame Rachel for having doubts about Jake's intentions, but Rachel thinks that Paulina ought to have doubts, too. Paulina doesn't have doubts, though. She knows that Jake is doing the right thing this time. Rachel just sees it as more of the same from him, though. Paulina insists that Jake is trying to turn his life around, and reminds Rachel that she (Paulina) turned her life around. Rachel refuses to let Jake use the Cory family as a moral proving ground anymore. Paulina asks Rachel to give Jake another chance, but Rachel says Paulina can do whatever she likes with whomever she likes, but Paulina doesn't have to presume that Rachel will follow her lead on that. Paulina tells Rachel that Paulina believes in Jake, and she wants Rachel to believe in him too. Rachel says she has tried to do that for Paulina's sake, but she can't do it regarding Jake anymore. When Paulina points out that Rachel taught her not to give up on the people you love, Rachel says she hasn't given up on Paulina. Paulina is part of this family, but Jake isn't and doesn't want to be, and Rachel would be worse than foolish if she didn't draw the line after everything Jake has done to the family. When Paulina asks if this tension is going to be there between Rachel and Jake for the rest of their lives, Rachel answers with a question of her own: does Paulina have room in her life for anyone besides Jake? When Paulina says of course she does, Rachel says that's the premise on which they'll operate, as friends, family, and possibly co-workers. Rachel then reiterates the job offer she made to Paulina to be production assistant at KBAY if Rachel's deal to buy the station goes through. Paulina reiterates that to take the KBAY job, she'd have to leave D&M and Rachel would like it if Paulina wasn't working with Jake anymore. Rachel says that she's offering Paulina a job with considerable pay and advancement, and if Paulina can't separate that from her need to protect Jake from Rachel, then clearly Rachel has thought of the wrong person for the job.
