I like the Taylor more personally just because of the brighter tone, which Taylor's are known for. It just seems more clear, and rich to me.

Martin is definitely the darker of the two. Both sound good, depends what you like, though. I like the Taylor sound better, myself.

man, i love and respect taylors quality, but as for sound, 9 times out of 10 i prefer martins

I like the martin better. The martin has a deep, ancient sound to it. The Taylor sounded brighter, it reminded me of the gameshow 'the price is right!'

Back in the mid/late 90s I test-drove a Martin D1-R and came away impressed. It was very close to my D-28 in tone.

@Uddermilkman I agree. Martin has is the sound right. I have a DX1K and it blows away guitars priced 3 times as much.

The first one is more focused but less punchy . The second one has strong bass but lacking in midrange.

I have one that had to be made for me being left handed. It's from El Cajon, CA. I bought it around 2005? I love it!
