Following my work and posts on AppleInsider, AppleFritter and Lowendmac here is a video of Leopard retail booting on a Beige PowerMac G3, which has been upgraded with a G4 CPU.

  • Where do you get you processor upgrades? or do they come out of other macs?

  • @familyguy9877 I got them mainly via ebay or through donations from other people. There are still some floating around ebay

  • Is it possible to run 10.5 on a beige G3 with a 500MHz CPU upgrade, or does the upgrade need to be more than 867MHz (the minimum requirement for 10.5 leopard)?

  • @TommyA1912 . Hi, any g4 will work... if you use another mac to install it then the cpu speed doesn't matter, as it's only the installer that checks this.

  • Sorry bud but this isn't a G3 Mac.

You've done the equivalent of brain surgery, and changed it to a G4 Mac. If you could get 10.5 to run on an actual G3 with no mods, then I'd be impressed.

  • Agreed - in the description of the video it does mention this. However, it wasn't as simple as just upgrading the CPU to a G4 - as the motherboard and rest of the hardware was still G3-era, and not G4.

  • turning on apple logo, black screen

  • MUST BE SO SLOW.

  • How did you do that

  • @jimjamyahauk id say mac and linux is better, windows is crap with its pointless bluescreens and prone to viruses

  • @SuperGoldfish1999 I don't think so...

Macs are faster than windows PCs by a lot.

plus, intel macs can run windows so why would you get a pc besides the fact that it's cheaper?

  • @jimjamyahauk OK, thanks I'll try it.

  • @SuperGoldfish1999.. Grow up. No system is perfect and no system is 'the best'.
