A mega hotel project in Port-au-Prince aims at enticing businesses and tourists back to Haiti which is still recovering from last year's earthquake. The project is creating jobs...and hope.

  • This is what missionaries should be doing. Instead of shipping bags of rice (which can be grown in haiti, mind you), they should open a business in Haiti.

  • This is good news but I am still very concerned seeing this building is being constructed without these huge iron beams we use here in the US. Everything is made out of concrete even the stairs. Weren't Hotel Montana, the Cathedral, the National Palace & most tall buildings in P-a-P built the same ways. I hope they start introducing these big iron beams into their new constructions cause I am definitely not looking to be trapped in an earthquake inside these massive all concrete buildings.

  • @gilgabe66 You are correct in your evaluation of the Haitian business mindset. The problem is education and lack of capital. The Oasis project will have a hotel and tourism training school. It will at least help with customer service. Abaka Bay which is featured on our Haiti509dotcom is a nice resort and can easily compete with any resort in the Caribbean. It is located on Ile à Vache. We do not know who you spoke to from Abaka Bay and was rude to you. We apologize on their behalf. ~come2haiti~

  • @Haiti509Pages Many people have voiced their unhappiness about the Dominican song playing on this clip about this Haitian resort & the dude replied the reason why he had the Spanish song was cause he was only listening to Spanish songs while he was there. This is the dumbest excuse I have ever heard & he has this cllip posted on youtube since Jan 2011 & people are still crtitizing him. How long does it take to fix a clip on Youtube? Yes Haitians know shit about advertisings!

  • @Haiti509Pages I have been checking few Hotels on youtube in Haiti, some are just plain FUCKED UP. First the names alone turn me away, from "HOTEL GRACE A L"ETERNEL" to "KINGDOM HOTEL to "D'CARIBBEAN HOTEL" with ads written in paints such as Bar & Resto & Dansant. One nice place is ALAKA BAY RESORT but the dude has some Dominican song blasting throughout the whole clip. I really thought that was a place in Dominican Republic. I wrote him & the way he answered me was to block me!

  • @Haiti509Pages Not only Haitians don't like to advertise but most Haitian businesses tend to run by Haitians who don't have a clue about business. Some tend to get into business just for the sake of making money which is the first reason but THEY NEED TO KNOW THEIR CRAFTS FIRST.Haitian businesses here in the US lack appeals & most don't know how to run a business. Haitians don't believe in having a SALE even if the items are rotten & outdated & you better not say anything to them!

  • @Haiti509Pages I am supporting Haiti & Haitian businesses. I am a future investor in Haiti pretty soon but since the earthquake we need to take many facts into considerations. One, build world class structures with international standards. Second, create corparations so we can mass the necessary capitals to build these structures. Haitians tend to think third worldly meaning they work alone by building small & they don't expend. This Hotel looks very good & impressive for Haiti.

  • @gilgabe66 All new construction in Haiti, especially hotels and resorts are being built using "earthquake proof" technology. Earthquake engineering firms are on the ground in Haiti. ~Support Haiti. Support Haitian Businesses. come2haiti~

  • You are correct. We do not understand why Haitian hotels charge more than the Dominican Republic. Especially when Haiti need "real" tourists. However, there are still quite a few hotels that are reasonable. The problem is that Haitians in general do not like to advertise. So, you will not know which hotels are offering bargains. One of our goals is to encourage Haitian businesses to advertise. Not an easy task. ~Support Haiti. Support Haitian Businesses. come2haiti~

  • It's a good idea but knowing my people I will be scared sleeping there for a week. in addition dominican resorts will continue to attract more tourists than they do because they will still be cheaper in all inclusive, beach, drinks, meals etc. Haiti is very poor country but they will charge more than any other in the world.

  • i agree with gilgabe66. it does look like they're building with the same type of material. and beenn15, most definitely. those missionaries keep giving the people rotten fish instead of teaching them how to fish.
