While most industries are facing some sort of decline during the financial crisis, video game sales have proven to be strong. Sales in the US in January were up 13 per cent from the year before and gamers continue to dish out for the latest hardware. The president of Sony Entertainment Hong Kong, James Akio Hong, once proclaimed at the 2008 Asia Game Show that "they are the most effective and cheapest way to reduce stress", reflecting how game sales seem to be recession-proof.

On that note, Sony has been scouring Asia to search for the greatest warrior on Street Fighter IV and the finals took place in Hong Kong. Two locals and two from Taiwan and South Korea battled it out in a public showcase of virtual combat. The game is the latest descendant in the Street Fighter lineage that extends back to 1987. In February this year, it was the highest sold game in the US with over a million copies.
