  • So let me get this straight. Caldor,Bradlees,Woolworths,Ames,Jamesway all quality stores I grew up with went bankrupt. This is totally unfair. These stores were the best now we are stuck with retailers who use cheap products made in foreign countries that break after one use. We need a time machine to go back to 1987.

  • And Wards, Hills, Zayre, Service Merchandise.. and the catalog stores!

  • those were the days..a discman for 109.00!

  • regularly 159.99! :-)

  • Ugh. I can't believe that a store with advertising this AMAZING lost customers to Best Buy and Circuit City. Consumers just love seeing a bunch of unattractive, plain jane dorks physically holding up poorly-lit and boring electronics!!! These stores deserved to die - with their very existence on the line, this was their strategy?

  • @nintengirl79

All of those fell victim to what I call the Bing-Bong theory. Any store that required you to pass through a bing-bong sound to get to the electronics department (imagine a CD player costing $159) as the electronics is the primary source of profit for stores. It's annoying as hell to hear a Bing-bong sound every time you pass through an electric eye, and hence you don't go there, and the store goes bankrupt.

  • @clarkbell I wouldn't mind 1965, but would prefer 1994... I was just 1 then, not 18 ):

  • @shawnsgirl56 I've prob seen your mom mad times if she worked in that Caldors lol! My family stayed in that one in Hamden and the one in Milford all the time. The first boombox in the pic I got from Caldor's but in like 94' or 95' though lol!

  • I just bought that sony discman at my local goodwill store for about a buck, and the thing sounds great in the car!!!!!!! What a deal. I could have paid $109.00 back in 1993. My mom worked at the Caldor in Hamden, CT for years. I used to get her employee discount especially for baby diapers and wipes.

  • we never even got the luxury of a caldor.com

  • My MP3 player cost less than both those things, lol. God, how things have changed/ I remember buying my first stereo with my first check working tobacco back in 1990. I felt like such hot shit--$100, omg!!

  • i remeber trying to get a job at caldor in woodbridge they turned me down lol what fail trying to get my first ever job during hs

  • when u find the time machine let me know..1989 is waiting for me..
