Okay:
1. Never said I hated Titanic
2. Where are you getting this information? "most liked film on the planet" and "5 star movies..." State some sources, otherwise this sounds extremely bias.
3. If you want REAL critical consensus for Titanic, RottenTomatoes has it listed at 87% and Metacritic at 74%.
Avatar on RT and Metacritic is at 83%. Above average, but not on the all-time.
4. I fail to see how a movie about people dying HORRIBLY enthralled and impacted people.

All I felt after seeing Avatar was the urge to use the bathroom...and then contemplate why I wasted $15. But then again, I'm not really into this hollow, color-coated fluff people are calling "entertainment" these days. And it made more money? Oh, then it must be good! Give it an Oscar! And while you're at it, throw in Transformers and Twilight! They made lots of money too, I'm sure they're quality entertainment...

(oh and thanks...thanks a lot for pointing out we need less people like me. As IF your opinion is of any more value lol.)
You're right about one thing. We all definitely have opinions. Some opinions are just more popular than others.

Yeahhh right. You're just annoyed that people hold Titanic in such high regard. I haven't snubbed anyone. I can just see how film has evolved. I'm sure I'd feel differently if I grew up with them but alas I did not...I grew up with 1970's and up. The Godfather, Dances with Wolves, Braveheart, Jaws, Apocalypto, Vanilla Sky, Pulp Fiction, The Last Samurai, Ghost, Terminator 2, Life of Pi, Avatar, just to name a few I find remarkable. I should have stated that MOST films before 1970 are not for me.

Well that's funny, because I keep coming back for the story. The visual effects are just icing on the cake to me, really. The ending to Titanic was just poetic unlike anything I have ever seen before on an emotional level. I think many many would agree with me.
Neither of us are right or wrong here but the films you mention to me are not even in the same league as Titanic. Gone with the Wind I'll respect for its time, but that's it...I wouldn't be able to sit through it today.

We all have opinions, but to make a statement like that is just absurd. We need less people like you who cut out nearly 50 years of cinema that got us to where we are today. You've snubbed an incredible amount of actors and actresses, directors, writers and cinematographers with on single statement. No. Acting weak? If you can't stand to see a movie before 1970 you, in all honesty, shouldn't be watching movies now.
