Me playing the recessional at the 2008 Christmas Eve Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Princeton, WI. The introduction and conclusion are improvisations of my own creation.

I am not going to school for organ performance or music. I am actually a Chemistry and Biology major and am currently preparing to apply for medical school. The organ is merely one of my great passions. I hope you enjoy my performance.

  • Sam! Another great video! Would love to see if you can make a video if you ever play "God of Our Fathers" or "You Are Mine" if you are playing those songs for Mass this summer! Great job on the pedals here! My method was resting my right foot on the expression pedal, and only using my left foot hitting the pedals when I used the church organ. Also, I will ask our church organist if she ever is "cleaning her files" I will have her save the music and I will see if I can mail it all to U!

  • That would be wonderful! Thank you for the wonderful comment! Actually, God of Our Fathers is one of my favorite songs. I am doing summer research in Bioanalytical Chemistry right now and haven't had much time for playing this summer sadly. I will try to post a few videos though before I go back to school:)

  • Did you realize that the last few descending notes in the pedal are actually the end of the hymn "A mighty fortress"? :o)

  • Actually, I had not. But I definitely hear it now. Since the beginning of the hymn is basically a fancy D scale, I tried to do a D scale with a little flair for the end.

  • good job. ONe thing I might try to do is breathe for the singers. The choir can do it without you having to put breath phrasing in there but it really helps the congragation. Also you should try holding a low D in the pedal for the first 2 lines or so it makes it sound very cool. Good job!

  • Excellent, Samuel!

  • I love this video! Love those foot pedals!

  • Very good! You know me the score? For Christmas I would play it in church but I also do not find the score that starts with d

  • Man this is very nice.....I play it non stop.....Very nicely done.....To bad Christmas was not all year around :*-( Keep up the good work chief :-)

  • Hahahaha! Awesome comment.

  • Improvisation is irresistible for a natural musician. Bach was censured by church officials for "unseemly improvisations on our sacred tunes". Today he is remembered; they are forgotten. Have fun! You're doing great.

  • HI! Great job! One thing that I think you might fix for this Christmas is the part when it is "and Heaven and Nature sing..." There are supposed to be more eigth notes ( 1 more i think) on the pedal part. Great job!

  • Lol, I thought I was the only one that noticed that. Hahaha.
