I worked out how to open my TomTom Go 730 satnav. You will need a T6 torx driver, a thin credit card and some contact adhesive.

  • @daidouji: I found my replacement on eBay by searching the Tom Tom model. However, changing the battery did not stop the unit losing its charge over time. I think it is either a design flaw, a fault with individual units or the unit switches itself on in the glove box.

  • @technoquest: sorry no experience of screen replacement. Thanks for the positive comment.

  • You not showing how the battery take out and replace with new one to install.

  • @hornerm5: Er, actually that is the only purpose of the video. Sorry if you did not find it useful ;/

  • Yeah - thanks for the video. Helped no end. That and a hair dryer to heat up the glue on the double sided tape.

I used a thin plastic strip (part of a plastic card) to work under the battery in two places. I then used a flat head screwdriver on the plastic strip to lever up and get the battery out without scuffing the circuit board.

Finally I reused two small pieces of the double sided tape, such that if I need to do it again it'll be much easier. Such a stupid design.

  • Not helpful, you didn't show how to do the process. What was the point of this video?

  • Thank you sooooooooooooo much, you are a hero.

    U saved my day.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this. Helped me no end.

  • You just solved my problem. Thanx. :) And the battery was really stuck with double side adhesive tape, but your credit card trick solved the problem - with the help of a little force.

  • @underseaimages I first purchased mine refurbished and the screen calibration got messed up after repeated falls from the dashboard (until I crazy glued the car mount). TomTom Sent me another unit for free, also refurbished and the battery condition was worse than the original. >.>

  • @underseaimages Alright, I'll try to replace the battery and see if it helps.

  • @daidouji Just search for "battery for tomtom 730"

  • @daidouji Please search on ebay. I bought mine for $12 including postage.

  • Thank you. I managed to change the battery without any mishaps, after viewing your instructions.
