I would be very careful to note that during the New Years holidays... banks are very very very CLOSED. This includes ATMS. Tokyo tends to be quiet at new years, becase most people go to their hometowns for the holiday. But there will be lots of new years eve parties Im sure. From the 1st Holy Places will be very crowded.

You should just stop shaving all together like I did, more people need to grow beards. There are some negative points though as a lot of people think I look creepy and homeless, I also haven't hooked up with any women since growing it all out (didn't really get any women before that either...) but it does not matter what people think of you as long as you like it yourself.
