Graphics: The visuals are truly stunning. There's so much detail to everything, particularly in the cafe where each cake is individually designed and each model is well rendered. The only things preventing this from being a 10/10 are the occassional visual glitch, a few models that needed smoothing and some bland textures.
8/10

Gameplay: It has to be said, the movement is nasty. It's as if there were only 4 directions mapped out and so using the analog stick for it is rather awkward. Despite the quirky controls though, the core gameplay is very fun. You'll explore the mysterious city of LebensBaum (I think that translates to 'Living Tree'), will talk to many eccentric characters and do whatever it takes to prevent yourself being murdered, and this includes travelling through time and altering specific things to prevent your fated death or other dreaded events.
7.5/10

Story: I've not played through the whole game but so far the story is very intriguing. From the start you are placed in a town named Lebensbaum which looks like a very old fashioned typical pre-world war German village.
In the opening cutscene you are stabbed in the back by an unknown character. You are given a second chance and are granted an object that lets you time travel, and therefore go back in time and prevent your destined death.
Unfortunately, even if you avoid death once, you've merely postponed it and must expect your death to come about again at a later point in time. In Shadow Of Memories you will do whatever it takes to stop this mysterious figure from harming you or anyone else in the town, even through time travelling, not only minutes back but centuries....
7/10 (Only so far. It could get higher or lower as I progress through the game)

Sound:
The music really is spine chilling and dissinent and isn't something you'll really want to put as your ring tone but still, that only emphasises the dark plot and vibe of the game. The music is crucial for building up suspense and does it well for the most part but there's a lack of ambience which really hurts some of the atmosphere and the feeling that you're in a living world.
Luckily the voice acting is pretty much top notch.
7.5/10

  • I have both versions ( PSP and PS2). Where i'm form we call the game Shadow of Destiny.

  • @jj987987987 It's a PS2 game, actually. And the PSP port is near-perfect, though it has some framerate stutters here and there, and it's been redubbed (not as well as in the PS2 version IMHO).

  • is this a ps1 game that imported to psp?

  • is this game any good

  • Love this game^^

  • OK, this game reminds me way to much of Shenmue watching the gameplay...

  • can somebody help me?!?!?!?!?!

I cant get this game to work ... i have 5.00 M33 and only by that i got uplaod error 80020148 ... then i upladed to preometeus 2 for M33 and patched the iso of teh game with isto tool 1.54 (UR) and i got the game to upload to its menu ... when its supposed to start ... it says proloug and etc and the movie is supposed to start but ... NOTHING ... ethernal black screen ... ?????

  • @VampiroOIFIV i dont know if it to late....but you should change the umd mode it to sony npxxx.... i've done it..

  • Shadow Of Memories, to me, remains THE most underrated game of all time, and the #1 on my all-time favorite list. However seeing that most voices were re-recorded for PSP, it really ruins the fun. If you want to see the original piece, get the PS2 copy.

  • Ahh, I remember when I had it on PS2, i only ever got 84% of the game completed, Imma get it for Psp and try to get 100% =D
